Ann Lowe

Ann Lowe is an interior designer and set stylist. She's also a passionate photographer, happy to sit and strum her guitar, a killer ice tea maker and author of another lovely blog, My Friend's Homes.

On a muggy summer afternoon I stepped into the quiet, natural light filled oasis that is Ann's home. Everything is placed perfectly, lazy black taper candles leaning in the heat, wild flowers, perfectly miss-matched throw pillows, a few odd trinkets, but nothing looks forced -- exactly what you'd expect from an effortless decorator. Ann's home, tucked up on a hill in East Austin, is the type of spot you want to disappear in. The sort of place where you want to just sip iced tea (which we happily did), strum a guitar, peruse a book, listen to a record, or maybe just have a think. We poked through her collection of oddities (eagle wings!), admired her art collection (Anna Krachey!) and swooned over her living room (it's sunken!). If only I could figure out how to sink mine...

My personal style is…  classic, neutral, tailored, well-made, odd patterns.

My style icons are… Diane Keaton.

I’m inspired by… space that makes me feel something.

If I lived in another era I’d choose  the 60s.

The last book I read was… Tortilla Flats.

Right now I’m obsessed with… the design projects I am working on, trying to not suck at the guitar.

Lately I’ve been listening to… radio hits and Arthur Russel.

When I’m at home I love to… move things around, put flowers everywhere, make everything look and smell good, cook, drink coffee, play guitar, look at design magazines.

If I were in a movie I’d be in… a Bollywood dance film

When I walk up to the bar I order… gin gimlet.

My go-to beauty product is… facial sunscreen.

I’m crushing on… tomatoes and melons.

The last time I surprised myself I got really into a Disney star.

On a sunny afternoon I love to swim.

When I’ve got money to burn I head to… Uncommon Objects, Room Service, Kick Pleat, Olive Vintage.

Five things I can’t live without are… my people, black taper candles, yashika T4, coffee, tape measure.

I feel most myself when I am… joking around with my friends.
