Sarah Murphy

Sarah Murphy is an über talented photographer and the pitch perfect designer behind jewelry line Hey Murphy. Sarah's also a true beach babe (I've never met anyone who loves the ocean more), a lover of bright lipstick, mamma to a sweet dog named Handsome, and loads of fun.

Never have I seen a house with more nature ephemera than Sarah's. Prehistoric looking horseshoe crabs hang on the walls, tortoise shells perch in glass cases, strange looking seed pods adorn book shelf corners,  seal jawbones, shark teeth, tiny rodent spines - it's a pretty impressive collection she amassed over time spent combing beaches all over the country with her boyfriend Matt. Sarah lights up when she talks about their wild collection, carefully combing through each piece. Her eyes spark when she pulls out an impressive heap of whimsically printed dresses from her pal's line Dusen Dusen too. Other favorites stashed in her closet were her No. 6 clogs, classic sunglasses, a slinky jersey maxi dress scored for a song at a quasi-closing sale of the much loved Dog & Pony, her incredible vintage Wista camera and of course loads of amazing Hey Murphy jewelry.

My personal style is... sort of a mix of cute, cool and fun. I bike a lot so I end up wearing a lot of dresses and backpacks. I’m also curvy so fit is really important to me, but by now I know what will work and what won’t. Recently I’ve been into wearing heels but they’re hard to bike in so I’ve resorted to bringing a pair in my backpack.

If you look in my closet its really a mix of colors and patterns but let’s just say I own a lot of blue sailor stripes. I’m also a firm believer in dressing up an outfit with some bright lipstick.

My style icons are... I really love young Coco Chanel and Bridget Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, I love her little short bangs and thick eyebrows. It’s hard not to look up to those ladies.

I’m inspired by... art, the ocean, West Texas, creative friends, traditional crafts, the Internet and Animal Facts Club.

If I lived in another era I’d choose... based just on fashion I would choose the 60’s or maybe the 70’s.

The last book I read was… Jesus’ Son by Denis Johnson and before that the Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach, I highly recommend both of them.

Right now I’m obsessed with... turquoise beads, sunglasses, and finding the perfect high waisted bikini. We live in Texas and it’s already summer so those are some summer essentials.

Lately I’ve been listening to.... Beach House, Grass Widow, Tusk by Fleetwood Mac, Soft Healer, Boy Friend, and This American Life.

When I’m at home I love to… cuddle with my dog.

When I walk up to the bar I order… Whiskey and Ginger, Bulleit preferably.

My go-to beauty product is… two things right now: Rae Cosmetics and MAC lipstick. Rae is a local company that makes beauty products specifically for Texas’ hot climate. I love MAC, they have the best colors at the best price. Lady Danger is my jam.

I’m crushing onKaren Walker Harvest sunglasses.

On a sunny afternoon I love to… go swimming.

When I’ve got money to burn I’m head to…  I’m actually quite a conservative shopper. I don’t make too many big purchase without really doing my research. But I do have a sweet spot for shoes. I like Need Supply, Totokaelo, Solestruck and Ebay.

Five things I can’t live without are… my parents’ and boyfriend’s support, our dog Handsome, contact lenses, at least one good camera, and good food.

I feel most myself when I amaround people, at the beach or near the ocean, taking photographs or making a new piece of jewelry for the first time.
